It always amazes me how powerful love is when a couple tells me they shared a long distance relationship with each other while they were dating. Bettina & Kevin met through mutual friends but while they were dating were in different provinces. B was in Edmonton and K was in Vancouver. Despite this distance, their love for each other grew.
Over the years, they bought a house, a puppy (the cutest Frenchie named Frankie!) and then declared their love and promises to each other on one of the hottest days in the summer.
Kevin is quiet and calm but he’s listening to every word you have to say. Bettina has a fun sense of humor and a love for tropical plants (just like me!!!). Their wedding happened on one of the hottest days of the summer. We started our day at the Westin Grand on Robson. Mink Hair & Make up was already there getting some last minute touches done. The room was glowing with excitement as B got her dress on and mom helped with her jewelry. You could see the pride in momma’s eyes.
Why a First Look is a good choice for your wedding day
If you’re looking for a modern touch to your wedding day timeline, having a First Look is a great way to get those nerves and butterflies out of the way and in a more intimate setting.
For B+K’s First Look, K waited at the bottom of the stairs of the Westin. My second shooter, Michele (Michele Mateus Photography), had spent the morning with the boys so I was informed about K’s little gift for his groomsmen seconds before B would find out. He bought them all matching fanny packs which for Kevin was very practical. Kevin explained that formal wear for men meant tight pockets and not enough space to fit everything that you’d need on a wedding day – true. In the kit were a bottle of cologne, matching G-Shock watches, red packets (money for good wishes) and a battery operated fan (remember, this was one of the hottest days of the summer). Let’s just say those needed to come off for the ceremony at Brix & Mortar.
B&K shared a beautiful ceremony at Brix. Brix offers a certain charm to your wedding ceremony with its brick walls, tall room with skylights and a feeling of coziness. B is Christian and K is Buddhist so both of them wanted a ceremony that would offer a blend of the 2 however they added a bit of a modern twist to it as well. Abegael from Life threads Ceremonies put together a beautiful reading and ceremony with a collection of singing bowls and bells for guests. Once they said their I Do’s and shared their first kiss, the room erupted into a celebration of bells and ringing kind of like what you would hear at a church wedding.
What is great about having a First Look style itinerary and having your ceremony and reception location in the same place?
You can walk right into cocktail hour and spend more time with your loved ones without having to step away for photographs
The night was a sweet mix of happy speeches, photoboothin’ with Dang Good Booths and dancing the night away with music put on by DJ Emilita. Last but not least, I must talk about the cake at this wedding. Your wedding details aren’t just props in a play. These are details with special meanings to you and this was something extremely unique, a golden pineapple cake by Cake & the Giraffe.
Congratulations Bettina + Kevin on your marriage!
